Jane Eyre 2011 Soundtrack
Jane Eyre is a passionate, impossible love story, one of the most romantic ever told. But it's also a cold, wild story about destruction, madness and loss, and this movie captures its divided spirit like none before. This is a wonderful way to read Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights even if you have read it before. Would have to read a classic in my 8th grade English class, one could say.

Jane Eyre 2011 Film
Dario Marianelli is one of the lesser known composers in the film score world, and is perhaps best known for his critically acclaimed score to Atonement.
In Jane Eyre, there is some wonderful writing present for the solo violin and piano, which reminded me of the exquisite score by James Newton Howard for The Village. The featured violin player on the album is Jack Liebeck, who I have to confess I have not heard of before, but is obviously exceptionally talented and adds a lot of emotion and character to the tracks in which he features. In some of the tracks, there is also a light female choir which adds depth without feeling obtrusive.
The pace of the tracks do vary, and provides some good variation ('Waiting for Mr. Rochester' and 'Jane's Escape' are good examples of this). There are also several tracks which contain the piano only - 'A Game of Badminton' and 'Life on the Moors' are particularly good.
The album duration is 45 minutes, which is a little on the short side in terms of score releases. That said, for this type of album the length of the album is perfect. The quality of the tracks are all high, and this level of consistency is maintained for the duration of the album. The majority of the tracks are rather short, with the majority being under three minutes (apart from the final three tracks, which are longer). Normally I would say this would disrupt the flow of the album, but on this release it does work surprisingly well.
Overall, this album is an absolute beauty. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this score receives several award nominations (and wins). Given the vast number of scores that are written today, it is always nice to come across an album that sounds like it has real quality and depth to it. Jane Eyre is such an album, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering purchasing it.
